His focus is political crises and challenges to political order. For over a decade, he has studied revolutionary upheaval, state survival, and the elite bargains that keep power intact across the Middle East, through political economy, archival research, interviews, ethnography, and discourse analysis.
His focus is how authority is actually constituted beyond the titles. He examines the doctrines, ideologies, relations, and elite networks through which power is claimed and contested across borders, drawing on network and discourse analysis, archival research, elite interviews, and interpretive methods.
